Unless it already has an on-site power source or feeds through an existing feeder into another electrical installation, any building or electrical installation should have an annual electrical service installed by a licensed electrician. All building owners should check to make sure they meet all electrical requirements before including a new installation in their budget. To protect your home from electrical hazards, make sure your utility company allows you to add new wiring and outlets to your building. If you have a gas or propane service at your home, the service company will usually require a special permit to run the electrical lines to the residence. The electrical service panel is opened via a door, usually near the main door knob or on the side. There are two main ways you can install a new panel door in an existing home: inserts or wall-mount. Inserts are mounted using stud finder tools with a flexible cable attached to each end. To install the panels, first locate all the electrical service panels then locate the studs and bolts that attach the panel door to the studs in the room. After locating the screws and bolts, remove the protective cover of the electrical service panel door. Some panels have a rubber protective cover over the spring clip mechanism; you may need to gently tap the panel door to release the protective cover. Wall mounting involves using a Stud Finder tool with the flexible cable attached to each of the metal screw-holes. Be careful not to damage any insulation by attempting to install the electric service panel upward. Instead, align the electric service panel horizontally to the open space underneath the existing floorboards. Some panels have three wire slots; you will need to locate the three wires that run from the panel door, adjacent to the three plastic panel doors, and connect these wires to the corresponding wiring sockets.
For safety, the electrical service panel door should be positioned on a sturdy surface; place it above kitchen cabinets, and ensure that there are no outlets that can damage the sensitive circuit breaker switches and insulation. You should then reconnect the three wires to their appropriate sockets. Reattach the ceiling fan blades to their brackets.
